Hucknall Hurricanes: Reports

Sherwood League 2007/2008

Hucknall Hurricanes 63 (12, 30, 43, 63) vs. Burton Tornadoes 45 (11, 20, 37, 45)

8th February 2008:
Taking to the wood without three key players, Coach Martin Richardson expected a tight game. The first quarter was a to and fro affair finishing 12-11 to Hucknall with Cornelius, Zac and James dominating proceedings. The second quarter was a slow start with James' lay-up in the first few seconds the only score of the first three minutes. Zac scored a fast break score before Burton could reply. Six quick points from Zac and James saw the Tornadoes Coach call a time-out to talk things over. Nothing changed as Hucknall extended the lead to 30-20 at the half.

Whatever the Burton Coach said during the break certainly worked as the first 4 minutes saw them outscore Hucknall 9-6 with Ted bagging the last score before Coach Richardson called a time out to deliver some harsh words to his team. More effort was needed. Ted's jumpshot over two defenders whilst being fouled was probably the spark the Hurricane's required. The Tornadoes had narrowed Hucknall's lead to just 6 going in the final quarter. Hucknall's offence exploded in the last quarter out scoring Burton 20-8 to seal an emphatic 18-point win.

(James 19, Zac 16, Cornelius 13, Ted 9, Jake 6)

Hucknall Hurricanes 48 Shiefton Lions 28

25th January 2008:
Hurricanes emerged from bruising encounter to beat Shiefton despite the loss of several key players. A comfortable half time lead came at the cost of injuries to four starters and through the second half Hucknall played possession basketball moving the ball quickly around the court to run clock and prevent further injuries. The stratergy worked as Hurricanes survived the rest of the game unscathed. The comfortable win keeps Hurricanes in a strong position in the Sherwood League table.

Hucknall Hurricanes 40 - LMS 41

11th January 2008:
Report coutesy of Pete Viles, Sherwood League
I watched the best game I have seen for a long time at JBWA on Friday. LMS v Hucknall at Under 18 contained effort, good attitude, extreme competitiveness without malice. Hucknall were losing 35-22 at the end of the 3rd period - but fought back to lead 40-39 going into the last minute - but they missed 4 free throws at the end and Mansfield scored the winning basket on the final buzzer to win 41-40. A fantastic advert for Basketball at its best and a game which neither team deserved to lose - well done to both teams
