Hucknall Hornets: Review 2006

After losing the opening games of Summer League 2005 it looked like this may be a difficult season for the Hornets but coach Martin Richardson worked hard with the squad to improve fitness and technique. As the kids moving up from Hotshots developed a higher skill level and gained confidence they started to gel with the older kids remaining from last year's team and the wins began to come.

When the Sherwood League started the Hornets were flying winning each time they played. With Martin leading from the sidelines the squad was showing more confidence not just on match days but also in training

After finishing top spot in the division the semi final game with Derby looked tough but the team showed just how hard they had worked and maintained their high level of performance with a good win recap. Now on to the final with Burton, yet another very good team who shaded a victory over Hornets in a close summer league fixture.

A focused Hornets team lined up against Burton with a noticeably smaller in the absence of two key players due to illness and other commitments. Right from the start it showed it was going to be a very hard game. After half time, the team started to pull the game back but then the effort expended started to show and Burton ran off with a 57-34 win. Hornets earned a very good second place recap

Well done to the team and Martin and all the parents for supporting the Hornets squad, in training on Mondays and on game day. A special thank you to Martin for all the effort and knowledge he brings to training nights and match days. A big thank you to Mrs Sue Downs for helping with the kit.
