Level1 Coaching Course

The weekend of 9th July 2005 saw HJBC host its first Basketball Level 1 Coach Training Course. The course was open all-comers attracting a wide range of ages and ability. In addition to club delegates, numbers were supplemented by five external candidates, including a wheelchair player from Portland college. The course was an intensive seven hours on both days with additional homework and preparation on the Saturday night.

Saturday commenced with theory and safety in the morning before moving on to practical exercises in the afternoon. Sunday morning again featured practical sessions. The afternoon was reserved for assessment a presentation of training drills by the participants. Both days were interspersed with short matches. These were used to demonstrate how to build up involvement and confidence of beginners, initially starting with only basic rules, developing as the course progressed.

The weekend was hot and tiring but also extremely informative and enjoyable. It has further increased the depth of resource available to Hucknall Junior Basketball Club adding to the existing pool of coaches, referees and table officials at the club.

Thanks to Ian Richards for running the course and John for organising the event. Thanks also to the Catalyst fund and Nottinghamshire Basketball Association for additional funding.
